Work at Height

Overview

Work at Height is a high-risk corporate programme designed to prevent falls—the leading cause of serious injury and fatality across many industries. Height-related incidents occur not only from rooftops and scaffolds, but also from ladders, mezzanines, vehicle loading areas, fragile surfaces, openings, and temporary access systems. Effective control requires disciplined planning, correct equipment selection, competent supervision, and strict compliance with fall prevention and fall protection measures.

This course equips employees, supervisors, and safety teams to identify work-at-height hazards, apply the hierarchy of controls, use access equipment safely, and implement inspection and rescue awareness arrangements. The programme is suitable for construction, maintenance, utilities, warehousing, oil and gas, facilities management, telecom, and any workplace where work is performed above ground level or near an unprotected edge

What You’ll Learn?
Understand what work at height includes and why falls can be fatal even from low heights.
Identify key hazards: unprotected edges, fragile roofs, openings, unstable surfaces, poor access, dropped objects, and weather impacts.
Apply the hierarchy of controls: avoid work at height where possible, prevent falls, and minimise consequences where prevention is not possible.
Select the right access method: ladders, step ladders, mobile towers, scaffolds, MEWPs, and fixed access systems (awareness level).
Use fall protection correctly: harness systems, lanyards, anchors, lifelines, and safe positioning (awareness + practical where applicable).
Implement inspection discipline: pre-use checks, formal inspections, tagging, and defect reporting.
Control dropped objects through tool lanyards, exclusion zones, toe boards, and material handling discipline.
Strengthen permit/control processes (where used), supervision, communication, and emergency readiness.
Understand rescue awareness: why rapid rescue matters and what basic rescue readiness requires.
