Chemical Safety Training

Overview

Chemical Safety is a comprehensive corporate programme designed to help organisations prevent chemical-related injuries, occupational illness, fires, explosions, and environmental harm. The course builds practical competence to identify hazardous substances, understand exposure routes and health effects, apply the hierarchy of controls, and manage chemicals safely across the full lifecycle—from procurement and receiving through storage, handling, use, spill response, and disposal.

This training is essential for industries where chemicals are used, stored, transported, or generated as by-products, including manufacturing, laboratories, construction, utilities, oil and gas, logistics, cleaning services, food processing, and healthcare. The programme aligns chemical risk control with operational reality—ensuring participants can apply safe practices consistently and support compliance expectations in their workplace.

What You’ll Learn?
Recognise common chemical hazards (toxic, corrosive, flammable, oxidising, reactive, sensitising) and understand how they cause harm.
Interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and container labels (e.g., hazard pictograms, signal words, hazard and precautionary statements).
Identify exposure routes (inhalation, skin absorption, ingestion, injection) and apply controls to reduce exposure.
Apply the hierarchy of controls to hazardous substances: elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE.
Establish safe requirements for chemical storage, segregation, compatibility, ventilation, and secondary containment.
Implement safe handling practices: decanting, dilution, mixing controls, transfer systems, and housekeeping discipline.
Select and use appropriate PPE and understand limitations, including glove compatibility and respiratory protection basics.
Manage chemical spills and emergencies: immediate actions, evacuation decisions, containment, reporting, and post-incident review.
Improve chemical management systems: inventories, risk assessments, permits (where applicable), training records, inspections, and audits.
