The OTHM Level 3 Technical Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is designed to build practical, job-relevant competence for individuals who wish to operate confidently in operational health and safety roles across a wide range of sectors. The qualification provides a strong foundation in workplace responsibilities, safety and welfare rules, safety management systems, and effective communication—enabling learners to support safer systems of work and contribute meaningfully to organisational compliance and improvement.
The programme also strengthens the underpinning knowledge required for further study and progression, supporting a structured pathway toward advanced occupational health and safety qualifications.

- Recognition: The qualification is regulated by Ofqual and IOSH-accredited; successful completion meets the academic requirements for Associate (AIOSH) / Technical (Tech IOSH) membership (subject to experiential criteria).
- Progression: Supports progression toward OTHM Level 6 and Level 7 occupational health and safety qualifications, and further academic pathways with partner universities (subject to entry criteria).
This qualification consists of 3 mandatory units, totalling 34 credits (TQT 340 hours, GLH 220 hours):
- Health and Safety Principles in the Working Environment (10 credits | TQT 100 | GLH 60)
- Maintaining a Healthy and Safe Working Environment (14 credits | TQT 140 | GLH 100)
- Principles of Risk and Incident Management in the Working Environment (10 credits | TQT 100 | GLH 60)
